Everyone will tell you that programming takes practice
Sometimes, though, it is hard to make yourself practice – Instead you avoid difficult situations for fear of failure
Some of us have a harder time than others with this and one theory is that this
is evidence of a belief about yourself that says your ‘intelligence’ is fixed and there is
nothing you can do to influence it.
But – if you think about it – of course there are things that you can do to make yourself better at something. This is called a ‘Growth Mindset‘. Here are some suggestions for further information:
- A handout about this.
- A link to a paper Lynda Thomas and a colleague wrote about it
- The kid in this video is a perfect example of someone with a growth mindset.
- An interview with Carol Dweck who is a mover and shaker in this field.
